Toothpick King Sculptures – Waxahachie, Texas

TXWAXtoothpick_casey.jpgToothpick King Sculptures – Waxahachie, Texas.  Building things with toothpicks takes the patience that few people are able to put into play.  In Waxahachie there is a man that has that type of patience and has created a number of mechanical sculptures using, you guessed it, toothpicks!  There are thousands and thousands of toothpicks all glued together to create the sculptures such as the 8,650 flat, 100 square, 250 round toothpicks along with the 140 chopsticks that went into the creation of the Ferris Wheel that is on display.

The creations of Venzil Zatoupil are on display at the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie.  Although the creator of these sculptures is no longer living, his creations still bring joy to those that see them.

The Webb Gallery focuses on finding the unique items that people may not always be able to see at other places.  The owners have been collecting "treasures" of old handmade items since 1987.  They have such things as painted or repaired objects, fraternal lodge items, carnival banners, tramp art (now that you won’t see just everyplace!), memory jugs (do you know what they are?), quilts and more unique items to fascinate you on your visit.

The Webb Gallery often hosts events, including films, musical performances, speakers, reveling parties and socials for the area.  If you are fortunate enough to be in town when one of these is taking place you will be expected to join right in with the others in attendance, enjoy the experience.

There are over 10,000 square feet of display area at the museum, which is just 30 miles south of Dallas on I-35.

The displays change about every 8 weeks so you will be able to see interesting new things when you visit.

While you are in Waxahachie don’t miss the opportunity to see the abundance of elaborate Victorian-style homes that are in the town.  The town claims the right to say there have been many movies filmed there using the old buildings and homes as background.  The town also was once squarely on the Chisholm Trail and was part of the Shawnee Trail so you can not only see interesting things at the Webb Gallery but you will be able to fill the day with history and charm.
