Wildflower Capital of Texas – Cuero, Texas

Wildflower Capital of Texas – Cuero, Texas

Situated in DeWitt County is the community of Cuero which is said to be the Wildflower Capital on Texas. In 1999 the Texas Legislature designated DeWitt County as the Wildflower Capital of Texas and set April as Wildflower Month in Texas.  This area of Texas has things for you to do during the month such as a bike race, talk/run, and bus tours for viewing the wildflowers.

The annual Wildflower 5K is something that you can do and enjoy the great Texas outdoors while joining others in celebrating the wildflowers of the area.  You can call for more information at 361-275-9942 to make your plans for the next run in April.

There are bus excursions that will take you out for a 3 hour drive with guides to see all the flowers in the area.  The cost is reasonable, the sights fabulous and the company all enjoying the beauty.  When you get done with the bus tour you may want to visit the Wildflower Specimen Exhibit to see the flowers up-close, touch them, smell them and photograph them.

You are welcome to participate in the Wildflower Bike Ride and Cycling Tour too.  There are 5 different distances through gentle rolling hills that you can choose from, the 10 mile, 23 mile, 32, 48 or 58 mile ride.  There is a registration fee but for that you get a custom designed 5 shirt and packet for registrants.  Fruit, beverages and snacks are provided at designated sag stops.  Approved helmets are required.

While you are visiting the area you may enjoy visiting the Yorktown Historical Society where there are Wildflower displays and 200 antique and authentic dolls on display for you to see. This is in Yorktown, not Cuero but its well worth the trip over.

With all of the things there are to do during April you will be so glad that you planned to come and see the beauty of the area and meet some of the greatest people of Texas!
